BUILDER

Cy was born in Anderson SC, into a construction family. His father was an industrial arts teacher by day and also worked as a builder. His uncles were builders, and most of his extended family had some involvement in craftsman trades. From a very young age Cy was exposed to and constantly involved in some form of a building project. Not just hammers and 2x4’s but complex furniture grade projects using jointers, shapers, lathes, ect and applying them to old world construction techniques.

Cy’s first real jobs were in the roofing and cabinetry industries. There was no doubt a future in construction was destined.

Cy left the upstate and ventured to Charleston in 1994 where he was admitted to the South Carolina Corps of Cadets, The Citadel. At the Citadel Cy majored and graduated with a degree in Civil Engineering. Civil Engineering was the perfect choice for Cy’s educational strengths, but also the perfect addition to the construction knowledge he had been learning his entire life. During his time at the Citadel, Cy not only learned about engineering principles and how they were applied to actual construction projects, but also learned about discipline, time management, honesty, integrity and self-assuredness. Cy joined the military where he obtained multiple accreditations and his airborne wings.

Cy took a job with a Civil Engineering design company where he learned to design and construct subdivisions. He worked closely with municipalities, contractors and developers, getting educated on the entire process of not only home construction but community building. Learning the process of taking a piece of land from a forest to a neighborhood gave Cy a deeper understanding, and a more delicate insight to the complex world of construction.

Much like his father Cy was always moonlighting on the side. While he worked as a Civil Engineer by day, he was working as a builder by night. “In those early years, I always said that engineering was my job but building houses was my passion.”

Cy built his first house in Charleston in 2000, and once this project was completed there was no longer a question of what he wanted to do with his life. Everything had built up to this defining moment. While he stayed in engineering for a few more years, each year brought more construction and less engineering, and eventually construction took over.

Cy’s unique background makes him specifically effective in the High-End Custom Construction world, and this is where he directs all of his efforts today. Daniel Island has been the main focus over the years and also projects on Isle of Palms, Mt. Pleasant, Charleston and the surrounding areas.

After the Citadel Cy married his high school sweet heart who had also traveled to Charleston for an education at the College of Charleston followed by MUSC. They have just celebrated their 27th wedding anniversary. Throughout that time they have lived like nomads, building and selling, and building again. It appears they have finally settled down on Daniel Island where they have lived for the last 12 years. Over the years they have raised 3 beautiful children. One has turned out to be a Gamecock (age 22). And one is a Tiger (age 19). Cy hopes that his youngest (8) will wind up a Bulldog at the Citadel and continue the long grey line.

In his spare time Cy enjoys spending time with his family, coaching youth sports, golfing, fishing, hunting, boating or beaching.
